GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – It was that time again… A lot of snow fell in the San Juan mountains.

Araf Holiday Village The season has officially opened with daily operations in Durango.

The facility also opened for early tastes of the slopes on November 9 and 10. Therese Blake Graven, media spokesperson for Purgatory Resort, said such an early opening was unexpected, but significant snowfall is possible in October.

“You need to have the perfect combination of low humidity and cold temperatures, so winter is off to a great start in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains,” said Blake Graven.

Unlike the usual midpoint at this time of year, several paths are open from top to bottom.

Purgatory will also be open on Thanksgiving Day and will serve a limited number of traditional Thanksgiving dishes.
