CDC announces new E. coli outbreak linked to organic carrots; At least 1 person in Colorado among patients

DENVER (KKTV) – A Colorado man is among more than three dozen people nationwide who contracted E. coli following an outbreak linked to organic carrots.

The CDC sent out an alert Sunday morning.

The Centers for Disease Control’s recall alert reads: “CDC and public health officials in multiple states are investigating a multi-state outbreak of E. coli infection linked to multiple brands of recalled organic whole bagged carrots and baby carrots sold by Grimmway Farms.”

The CDC said it does not believe the affected carrots are currently on store shelves, but they may still be in people’s refrigerators. Most were sold in stores during the summer and early fall.

The affected crop includes both baby carrots and whole carrots sold in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada:

Baby Organic Carrots

  • Expiration date ranging from 9/11/2024 to 11/12/2024
  • Brands: 365, Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments, Full Circle, Good & Gather, GreenWise, Grimmway Farms, Marketside, Nature’s Promise, O-Organic, President’s Choice, Raley’s, Simple Truth, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, Healthy Cellar

Whole Organic Carrots

  • Available for purchase in stores from approximately 8/14/2024 through 10/23/2024
  • Bags of organic whole carrots do not have an expiration date on them.
  • Brands: 365, Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments, Full Circle, Good & Gather, GreenWise, Marketside, Nature’s Promise, O-Organic, President’s Choice, Simple Truth, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, Healthy Pantry

Grimmway Farms voluntarily recalled carrots on Saturday. The CDC says to check your refrigerators and freezers and either throw away the product or return it to the store where it was purchased.

People have now gotten sick in 18 states:
