Eric Omondi among candidates for selfless acts

During the first NGO awards, many celebrities, journalists and civil society leaders were nominated.

The nominees will be celebrated on November 29 for their unwavering commitment to significantly improving lives in Kenya.

Among them, comedian and activist Eric Omondi has been taking on causes to help vulnerable families across the country, using the ‘Sisi kwa Sisi’ movement.

Omondi uses his social media influence to mobilize Kenyans to provide financial support to Kenyans in need, including those needing medical treatment, school fees or shelter to put a roof over their heads.

Other notable candidates include former news anchor Janet Mbugua, who is now an advocate for gender equality and women’s health.

Others are an eccentric mix of journalists and NGOs and civil society leaders such as the Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Human Rights Commission, AMREF and World Vision.

“Through public input, the NGO Awards aim to amplify the voices of those affected by these organizations and honor those who are leading significant change,” the Public Interest Organizations Regulatory Authority said in a statement. he said.

Shortlisted journalists include Suleiman Yeri, Hellen Shikanda, Angela Oketch and Wahome Ngatia.

CEO candidates include Dr Paula Kahumbu (Wildlife Direct), Dr Githinji Gitahi (Amref Health Africa), Kennedy Odede (Shofco), Jeanette Nyanjom (FAWE Kenya) and Wawira Njiru (Food for Education).

Karangu Muraya and Ndungú Nyoro were nominated as guardian angels of poor families.

“These nominations represent the incredible work of NGOs, individuals and partnerships that are significantly improving lives in Kenya,” the Public Interest Organizations Regulatory Authority said.

Online voting will continue until November 24.

“The public now has the opportunity to elect organizations or individuals they think are making the most impactful contributions in their categories,” the official said.

“The NGO Awards aim to amplify the voices of those affected by these organizations and honor those who are leading significant change through public input.”
