Chief Advisor Dr. In his statement today (November 17), Muhammad Yunus said that the interim government will ask India to send the deposed “dictator” Sheikh Hasina back to her country.

Addressing the nation upon completion of the interim government’s 100 days, he assured the country that all crimes committed in the last 15 years would be prosecuted.

The Chief Advisor said, “We will investigate not only the murders in July and August, but also all crimes committed in the last 15 years. During this period, many people were subjected to enforced disappearance and were killed.”

After mentioning that his government had established a commission to investigate cases of enforced disappearances, he said, “The head of the commission informed me that they have received information about 1,600 victims of enforced disappearances. They believe that this number may exceed 3,500.”

Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist Dr. Yunus also said that many victims are hesitant to complain to the commission for fear of being victimized again by the defendants.

“I assure you that you should convey your complaints to the commission without hesitation. No one can harm you again,” he said.

Bangladesh, devastated by autocratic rule, must now be rebuilt through joint efforts, the head of the interim government said.

“We inherited a country in chaos after the July-August revolution. Law enforcement was placed before the people to maintain autocratic rule.”

Dr. Yunus said that nearly 1,500 students and workers were martyred during the revolution.

“Our government meticulously collects data on each death. Approximately 19,931 people were injured in this revolution.”

He said that arrangements have been made in various private hospitals, including 13 in Dhaka, for the treatment of the injured.

“Every day, new ones are added to the list of martyrs who lost their lives under the oppression of the dictatorship. We will ensure that every murder is tried. We have taken the initiative to prosecute those responsible for the July-August murders. It is progressing well,” said the chief advisor.

He said that the testimonies of the victims taken from members of the Enforced Disappearance Commission were extremely shocking.

“We will bring those involved in these events to justice. No matter how powerful the defendants are, no matter what force they belong to, none of them will be spared. We have taken initiatives not only in the country, but also to prosecute those responsible for the enforced disappearances. Yunus said, “We have already discussed this issue with the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan. “I talked to him,” he said.

He reiterated that the families of those martyred in the mass uprising in July-August will be rehabilitated. “Not a single family will be left out. The government will bear all the treatment costs of all injured students, workers and citizens,” he said.

The Chief Advisor said that a comprehensive list has been prepared under the leadership of the Ministry of Health for the long-term and costly treatment of the injured and the welfare of the families of the martyrs.

Stating that arrangements have been made to bring corneas from Nepal for the treatment of those who lost their vision due to bullet injuries, the chief advisor said:

“In addition, those in need will be sent abroad for treatment and the expenses will be covered by the government. No student or worker who was martyred or injured in the July uprising will be excluded from the rehabilitation plans. This is the commitment of the interim government.”
