Terrible! Mexico Coach Javier Aguirre Left Covered in Blood After Being Struck by a Life Ball from the Crowd During the CONCACAF Nations League

Javier Aguirre, the manager of the Mexican national team, had blood spilled all over his head after being hit by a beer can thrown from the stands following Mexico’s defeat against Honduras. Mexico lost 0-2 to Honduras in the first leg of the Concacaf Nations League, played at the General Francisco Morazán Stadium in San Pedro Sula. Aguirre replaced Jaime Lozano, who was fired following his Copa America exit.

The incident occurred after the match, when Aguirre walked along the touchline to shake hands with his counterpart Reinaldo Rueda and fans began throwing objects at him. He suffered a head injury when a canister hit him on the head.

In response to the incident, the Honduran Football Federation criticized the fans’ actions but also accused Aguirre of provoking them. According to Goal.com, the federation said in its statement: “The Honduran Football Federation (FFH) regrets and strongly condemns the isolated actions of a small group of fans that do not reflect the respectful behavior of our fans as a whole. These incidents are absolutely condemnable, “It does not describe the behavior of the majority of those involved and we therefore condemn the actions taken against the coach of the Mexican national team at the end of the match.”

Reports to CONCAF disciplinary committee

Following the incident, CONCACAF not only condemned the attack on the 65-year-old coach, but also referred the file to the Disciplinary Commission for investigation.

“The safety of teams and fans is a priority for CONCACAF. This type of violent behavior has no place in football.” said the statement

Meanwhile, the Honduras coach took a different approach to the incident and blamed security. “This can’t happen again, not here, not in any stadium in Honduras, not in any stadium in the world. I’m sorry because he (Aguirre) is a human being, because they could have hit me like they hit the coach. He was coming to meet me at that moment,” he said.
