Pregnant woman shot dead in Lansdowne, baby in critical condition

A woman is dead and her baby is in critical condition after a shooting at an apartment building in Lansdowne, Delaware County, Thursday night.

Lansdowne Police Chief Ken Rutherford said officers responded to reports of a gunshot wound to a home in the 200 block of North Wycombe Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

They found a woman who was eight months pregnant and suffering from a gunshot wound. It was stated that the woman, who was determined to have died at the scene, was taken to the hospital to save her unborn child.

The child has been born and is in critical condition. Rutherford said the person who called the 911 emergency line was at the scene and was taken into custody by police.

Police did not name the woman, the person detained or the hospital.

The shooting is being investigated by detectives from the Lansdowne Police Department and the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Police say Jon McGowan is at 610-623-0700 or email [email protected].
