Two injured after driver ran red light in crash in Canandaigua

A two-car crash Saturday morning at the intersection of Route 21 South and State Route 5&20 resulted in two people being transported to the hospital for evaluation.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Alexis Smith, 48, of Canandaigua, was driving a 2023 Chevrolet SUV eastbound through the intersection when her vehicle was struck by a 2019 Ford truck. Deputies determined that the driver of the truck, Noah Springer, 21, of Canandaigua, ran a red light, causing the collision.

Smith and a teenage passenger in his vehicle were transported to FF Thompson Hospital for medical evaluation. It was stated that the injuries were not life-threatening. It was stated that Springer was at the scene because he did not stop at a red light.

The Cheshire Fire Department assisted with traffic control as deputies investigated the crash.

Authorities warn drivers to be careful at intersections and obey all traffic signs to prevent accidents.
