What is Train 18? This is India’s fastest train, it travels at a speed of 200 km per hour.

The train is equipped with bio-vacuum toilets, including accessible options for disabled passengers

India’s ground-breaking semi-high-speed train, Train 18, made a grand arrival at Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station on Thursday. Built without engines, this state-of-the-art train is set to replace the iconic Shatabdi Express, which has been a staple of Indian rail travel for over three decades. Designed for speeds of up to 160 km per hour, Train 18 promises to redefine rail travel in the country.

Produced by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, this marvel was completed in just 18 months at a cost of ₹100 crore. Boasting a range of advanced features, Train 18 offers modern, air-conditioned buses, automatic contactless doors and a GPS-enabled system that informs passengers of speed, location and arrival times. Travelers can also enjoy seamless Wi-Fi and built-in infotainment system.

The train is equipped with bio-vacuum toilets, including accessible options for disabled passengers. Passengers have an unparalleled view of the driver’s cab, and the executive seat cab features seats that swivel 180 degrees for added comfort. Each bus is equipped with a mini pantry with state-of-the-art facilities for heating and cooling food and beverages, enhancing the overall travel experience. Train 18 sets a new standard in terms of efficiency and comfort in Indian railways by reducing travel time by 15%.

India’s revolutionary self-propelled train, known for its stylish engine-less design, is setting new benchmarks in speed and innovation. Capable of reaching speeds of 160-200 km/h, this train has driven cabins at both ends, ensuring an efficient and trouble-free journey.

Passenger comfort comes to the fore with fully air-conditioned buses that offer ample seating options in both executive and standard seated wagons. The train is equipped with a host of modern amenities such as automatic doors, on-board Wi-Fi, GPS-based passenger information system and bio-vacuum toilets. Safety was also prioritized with the emergency feedback unit, which allows passengers to communicate with staff in case of emergency.
