Gregor Townsend impressed in last weekend’s defeat to South Africa and the Springboks battled back to within four points of the world champions before pulling away in the closing stages.

A very different match is expected today; It will be Portugal’s first international away to a top-tier country and Townsend has made 14 changes to the team that started against South Africa.

Portugal put in an impressive performance at last year’s World Cup, drawing with Georgia and then narrowly beating Fiji to end their campaign in a memorable way.

But despite all the changes, Scotland are expected to return to winning ways ahead of the visit of Australia next weekend.
