    Jake Paul’s boxing match against Mike Tyson was quite exciting. After all, a 27-year-old young man was fighting a 58-year-old boy.

    Technically Paul won the fight. He threw more punches, won more rounds, the referee raised his hand. Even though he didn’t get his social security checks for four years, it’s still hard to say that beating up a guy helped him with anything other than his bank account.

    The match somehow received official approval; this was the largest age difference allowed by those in charge of the beleaguered sport. It looked like a real fight for a round or two, but in the third round Paul staggered Tyson and from then on it was very clear what had happened.

    Tyson did not have the reach or quickness to touch Paul, who punched him repeatedly. At one point commentator Rosie Perez was openly wondering why Paul wasn’t “just giving the faceoff” to Tyson, and the answer was probably because the YouTuber and his supporters probably wanted the fight to go further. Tyson landed a total of 18 punches in eight two-minute rounds.

    Paul can at least say he still draws a crowd like no other in boxing, but that may have had the opposite effect. Fighting one of the legends of the ’90s has attracted a new fan base who want to see Tyson fight again and maybe see this sideshow finally come to an end. Instead, they carried Paul with an old man. All of Paul’s official victories are over MMA fighters, old men, no-name men and a former NBA player.

    No objective observer was satisfied with what they saw. Some were disappointed, some were just sad.
