The name of the show is Kalasetu, a Sanskrit word meaning building cultural bridges through music and dance.

It will investigate how Kathak dance of North Indian origin influenced Spanish Flamenco dance.

“Kathak and Flamenco dance are cousins. The original roots of flamenco dance are definitely related to Kathak,” Mr. Joshi said.

Kathak was created thousands of years ago as a way to tell a story through dance, he said.

He said that Indians carried this tradition to other parts of the world, including Spain, and it evolved into Flamenco dance there too.

He said: “(The show) is absolutely crucial to keeping Indian culture alive.”

But he said it may be difficult to encourage young people from the South Asian community to attend or participate in the demonstration, but the committee will continue to grow.

“They will carry the torch of Indian culture alive, we are proud to be British Indian. I am very proud to be able to do this,” he added.

The event will be hosted by South Asian organization Subrang Arts.
