Alison Hammond wasn’t the only one who did this overthrown in this week’s episode Great British Baking ShowAnother contestant was eliminated from the competition after the cake collapsed.

Illyin, a 31-year-old birth trauma specialist midwife from Norwich, England, became the eighth baker to be eliminated from the series after failing to impress the judges. Paul Hollywood And Prue Leith In 1970s Week. Despite becoming the first contestant this season to win Hollywood’s coveted handshake, Illyin was unable to replicate his previous success this week.

1970s Week saw Hollywood and Leith task the remaining five contestants with the usual Autograph, Technical and Vanity rounds. This included making choux profiteroles for Signature bakery, cake for Teknik and an elaborately decorated cake with all the elegance of the period for Showstopper.

The jury chose 34-year-old pediatric nurse Georgie as this week’s Star Baker, and Illyin as the eighth eliminated contestant. This came after Illyin’s cake failed to stand upright.

Speaking after her elimination, Illyin said, “It’s a funny thing, I feel like I can drop my shoulders a little bit and at least you don’t have to go and bake! Even underneath all these feelings of sadness, I think there’s a huge sense of pride. I’m happy to have that.”

She added: “This is an incredible competition with incredible bakers and it’s pretty special to be a part of it. Bake Off over and over again, done!”

“I’m a firm believer in the saying ‘What’s meant for me won’t miss me’ and what a joy that was for me!” he continued. “I’m excited for what’s next in this new chapter and to welcome more to my community. We will laugh, learn and grow together. It’s a great time. Best wishes until then.”

Illyin wrote of his elimination on Instagram on Tuesday, November 12: “If heartbreak had a face, it was my face when I discovered my destroyed door. Months of hard work and sacrifice ended in collapse. Man. It was tough. Watching it again was tough, too.”

Despite the way things ended, Illyin held his head high and added: “I’m a GBBO quarter-finalist. Quarter-finalist. It’s a title I didn’t expect to have and one I’m very proud to have achieved. You don’t get to this point in the competition without being at least a good baker.”
