From Christmas content to crime thrillers, here’s what to watch this weekend

CNN

If you’re someone who doesn’t even want to think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving, we apologize in advance.

We are here for those who are ready. Plus, Mariah Carey says the countdown has begunand we all know his word is law when it comes to this.

Here’s how that affects what to watch this weekend.

Based on the true story of a little owl rescued from the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in New York City in 2020, this animated short film tells the story of an owl named Moon who befriends a lost little girl named Luna.

They form an unexpected bond after embarking on an adventure to discover the magic of the holiday season while trying to reunite with their parents.

Who doesn’t love a story for the whole family? It’s currently streaming on Disney+.

Aldis Hodge as Alex Cross

If crime fiction is more your style, Aldis Hodge stars as the main character in this series based on James Paterson’s popular Alex Cross novels.

The intellectual detective leans into both his physicality and psychology in his search for justice. Hodge is no stranger to the small screen (“Underground”) or the big screen (“Black Man”). This new project is likely to bring him new fans.

The show airs on Prime Video.

Charithra Chandran, Yerin Ha, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning

Speaking of beloved series, “Dune” fans have been waiting for this.

“Dune: Prophecy” is a prequel series set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides, the character most recently played by Timothée Chalamet in the film series. Women are at the forefront of the action in the series, adapted from the 2012 novel “Dune Brotherhood”.

The sci-fi series premieres Sunday on Max, which is owned by CNN’s parent company.

“Landlubber”

Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris

“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan is a busy man.

In his latest project, Oscar-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton plays a man who manages people and land in the oil industry in West Texas. Thornton told CBS He said Sheridan crafted the role specifically for him.

“He said, ‘I’m going to write this in your voice,'” Thornton said. “So when I first read the script, of course I thought: Yeah, if I were a landlubber, I think I would try to be one.”

If “Yellowstone” and its spinoffs are any indication, the landscape of West Texas will be as much the star of the show as Thornton when it premieres Sunday on Paramount+.

Starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans

If nothing else, this movie gave us Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson pretending to be the Elf on the Shelf to promote it.

He and Chris Evans co-star in this movie about an ELF Task Force Commander who partners with a bounty hunter to save Christmas. An action-packed holiday movie?

Yes please.
