At a hearing on October 23, the judge ruled that Williams was competent to stand trial following a doctor’s evaluation in September. According to court records, the doctor found Williams “had sufficient current ability to consult with his attorney in a reasonably rational understanding and had a factual and rational understanding of the legal proceedings against him.”

In a previous statement, Getman’s children said their parents adored Mount Dora, had lived there for more than 20 years and were “enjoying their golden years.”

“They were spending their golden years staying active and spending time with their many friends. We appreciate all the support we have received. It shows how thoughtful our parents are.”

Police said Williams was seen wandering around the nursing home multiple times between Dec. 30 and 31, and on one occasion knocked on another resident’s door and asked that resident to take a shower before pressing the panic button.

At one point, Williams allegedly returned, killed the Getmans, and then left in their green Kia Soul. Williams was found days later parked at a train station in Savannah, Georgia, police said.

Records appear to show Williams has a decades-long criminal history, including 24 arrests in Ohio or South Carolina. Those arrests ranged from misdemeanors to felonies, including assault, trespassing, burglary, robbery, receiving stolen property and domestic violence, FOX 35 previously reported.
