Kentucky man who was on the run for days charged with murder of his son

Kentucky State Police arrested a man accused of killing his son and evading authorities for several days.

According to KSP, the suspect, 59-year-old Steven Girtley, was arrested just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday in a barn on his property in Franklin County. He was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center and charged with murder.

Girtley was running away Since Saturday evening. Police had previously said they responded to a home on Flat Creek Road just before 10 p.m. Saturday evening for a report of an argument between Girtley and his son, Justin Girtley, 36.

According to court records, the incident occurred at Steven Girtley’s home. Troopers found Justin Girtley dead from a gunshot wound, police said.

Steven Girtley was identified as the suspect, who conducted multiple interviews with witnesses at the scene, according to court records. He fled to a forested area before the soldiers arrived.
