Former Bridgend councilor Darren Brown jailed for attempted murder of his wife

A former councilor has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for attempting to murder his wife.

Darren Brown, 35, found guilty of attempted murder by jury After stabbing his wife Corrine at their home in Wildmill, Bridgend, on July 10 last year.

The court had previously heard He laughed while trying to stab his wife to death.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the wife hoped she would “take solace” in “her husband being brought to justice”.

Brown, a former member of Bridgend Council, separated from his wife but continued to live on the same property.

On July 10, 2023, the two were arguing when Brown grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed his wife twice in the back while trying to calm the baby.

She managed to get into the bathroom and lock the door, but the man kicked the door so hard that it came off its hinges.

Brown was then stabbed in the back a third time before leaving the property and walking away.

Initially, her husband said he had the knife and tried to pull it out, getting injured in the process.

He later pleaded guilty to intentional wounding in court but denied attempted murder.

However, he was convicted of the crime after a trial after the jury had heard all the evidence.

Hannah West, of the CPS, said: “Any of the wounds could have been fatal and the evidence we presented to the jury showed Brown’s intention was to kill his wife.”

She added that she hoped she would “be relieved to know that her husband has been brought to justice for this horrific attack.”
