Cyclist hit by truck in North Ayrshire taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’

A cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a lorry in North Ayrshire.

Police were called to the B7080 Long Drive, near the Oldhall roundabout in Irvine, at around 3.30pm on Thursday following a crash involving a cyclist and a HGV.

The 61-year-old male cyclist was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver escaped uninjured.

The road was closed for approximately eight hours to allow investigations to take place.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our inquiries are ongoing and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and has dashcam footage that could help them contact us.”
