Preparations are underway as Central America prepares for Tropical Storm Sara!

Honduras is likely to be the first place in the path of the storm as it slowly moves out of the Caribbean.

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, Sara is moving west toward the northern coast of Honduras at 10 mph, which will wake up over the next few days.

The NHC expects Sara to cause “life-threatening and potentially devastating flooding and landslides” before moving into Belize on Sunday.

While accumulated precipitation is forecast in the center over the next few days, some areas will see as much as 30 inches of precipitation.

While Honduras issued a red alert for the northern region, other countries activated emergency measures to prepare for catastrophic rains.

Tropical storms are expected to hit El Salvador, eastern Guatemala, Tern Nicaragua and the southern Mexican state of Quintana Roo early next week, according to a Miami-based forecaster.

On Thursday night, it was located 210 kilometers southeast of Guanaja Island, off the coast of Honduras, and could remain semi-stationary off the coast of Carribena, Honduras.

The country’s Risk Management System warned that the storm could remain semi-stationary off Honduras’ Caribbean coast until Sunday morning.
