A young man learning to drive crashed into a restaurant

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) – A teenage driver crashed into the wall of a restaurant in Macomb Township, Michigan.

Macomb County Sheriff’s Office body camera footage shows the Ford Escape crashing into Nori’s Restaurant.

Nori Shala, owner of the family restaurant, said the accident happened around 7:30 pm on Tuesday.

“Luckily there were no customers at the time because we were about to close,” Shala said.

Sheriff’s office investigators said a teenager who was trying to drive with a permit and a parent in the driver’s seat accidentally crashed into the front of Nori’s car.

“I had to help and turn the car around because the child panicked,” Shala said.

A worker, whom Shala said was a family member, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

Shala said the damage to the building was extensive and he expected the restaurant to remain closed for months.

All this was a shock to loyal customers.

“We were going to have lunch,” said Alice, a local customer. “My sister and I come here often.”

He was just one of many people who came here for a bite to eat on Thursday.

“It was like a diamond in the rough,” Alice added. “You didn’t even know it was here, and when they opened it was like, ‘Oh my God.’”

Nori’s Restaurant will reopen as soon as possible, Shala said. Meanwhile, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating what happened.

Alcohol is not thought to have played a role in the accident.

Luckily, the injured woman managed to survive the accident.
