Search for Rocky Point murder suspect takes nearly a week

The ongoing search for a suspected killer along Long Island’s North Shore has residents on edge.

Residents in the Rocky Point and Shoreham areas reported a large police presence throughout the week, including mobile command centers, undercover officers and helicopters.

Police closed roads or diverted traffic several times for the investigation in the area of ​​State Route 25A and William Floyd Parkway, but police have not confirmed it is related to this investigation.

Police charged Matthew Zoll, 23, with fatally stabbing his father, Joseph Zoll, 61, at their Rocky Point home on Saturday, Nov. 9. Police publicly named Matthew as a suspect the next day.

Investigators said Matthew is 6 feet tall, 150 pounds, has brown hair, brown eyes and a small scar under his left eye. According to police, the photo of Matthew showing him with shorter hair was taken last month.


Authorities do not believe Matthew had a vehicle.
