Another busy day on the campaign trail as first poll points to tight race – The Irish Times

Good morning. My name is Ronan McGreevy and I am general election live blog today.

Today will be another busy day on the campaign trail. Minister of Justice Helen McEnteeDeputy Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill and Senator Barry Ward will depart Fine Gael Today’s justice policy.

Fianna Fáil It will also set out plans to fight crime and keep communities safe. Minister James Browne, Fiona O’Loughlin, Jim O’Callaghan.

workforce will explain health policies Social Democrats housing policy.

A week has passed since the election was called and we Our first public opinion poll Taken during today’s Irish Times campaign. This is good news for Fine Gael; The party has a clear lead over its Fianna Fáil rivals with 25 per cent of the vote. Sinn FeinBoth are at 19 percent.

There is a warning though; Fine Gael fell a few points and Simon Harris’s satisfaction rating dropped five points. True, he is still the most popular party leader in the country. The poll shows Fine Gael is now a clear lead in this election. However, the decline in Harris and her party’s ratings will be enough to keep everyone on their toes. It doesn’t take too long for the race to start looking really tight.

Here’s the full list of figures: Fine Gael 25 per cent (down two); Sinn Féin 19 per cent (one drop); Fianna Fáil 19 per cent (no change); Green Party 3 percent (down two); Labor 5 percent (one decrease); Social Democrats 4 percent (no change); People Before Profit Solidarity 2 percent (no change); Aontú 3 percent (increase by two). Independents are 20 percent (up four).

So apart from Fine Gael, the biggest winners were the Independents, whose support rose by four points and who could expect significant seat gains if those numbers (or something like it) were repeated on polling day. They may yet play a role in the formation of the next government.
