An innocent sleep with a mother and her child ended in tragedy.

5-year-old Joshua James McCoy and his mother took a nap in Oregon on Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. However, when the mother woke up at 17.30, she realized that her son was missing.

During the work that continued on Sunday, November 10, deputies inspected the property and the surrounding area where he and his mother took a nap.

Multiple volunteers, including K9 units from Coos County Search and Rescue and ground and drone operators, joined deputies in the search to find the child.

A pond in the area was drained and several members of the local fire department also came to assist there.

The joint effort eventually led to the tragic discovery of Joshua, who died around 12:30pm on Wednesday 13th.

“It is with great sadness that we must report that missing Joshua McCoy has been found dead,” the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Joshua’s body was found approximately 1.6 miles from his home and the cause of death is still under investigation.

The sheriff’s office said the search for Joshua was extensive and expressed gratitude to everyone who helped search for him. They said: “Due to the circumstances behind the disappearance, the areas searched were carried out in a very thorough and systematic manner.

“We have received incredible support from the community in feeding all of these volunteers. Thank you to the departments and agencies that assisted the Coos County Sheriff’s Office; Homeland Security, FBI, OSP, NCMEC, Bandon police, MP pd, Coos Bay Police, Lincoln co. SO, seven CORSAR counties all, charleston fire, nb fire, coquille fire, mp fire and ambulance among others.
