Invasive plant discovered near Pueblo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking anglers and boaters to help prevent the spread of an invasive plant.

The plant, called Eurasian chickenpox, has been found in the Arkansas River and Fountain Lake in Pueblo.

CPW said the invasive plant can disrupt fish spawning grounds and interfere with boating, fishing, swimming and other types of water recreation. The plant can rapidly damage ecosystems and grow up to 30cm per week during the growing season.

CPW said they want boaters to be vigilant in inspecting, cleaning and drying their watercraft to prevent further spread of the invasive plant.
