The warning, valid from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., calls for strong winds and low humidity in leeward areas throughout the Hawaiian Islands, creating favorable conditions for wildfires.

The declaration, signed at 6.18pm, allows for the rapid deployment of resources to reduce bushfire risks and calls on the public to take precautions to prevent fires.

Authorities warned against activities that could cause flames, including open flames, campfires, grilling and the use of electrical appliances that could create sparks.

Residents were also warned not to park or idle their vehicles on dry grass.

The statement said, “Conditions are ideal for fires to start and spread quickly,” and called on citizens to be informed and careful during the warning period.

Local counties may also have additional restrictions or prohibitions on certain activities, and residents are encouraged to check with their local fire department for further guidance.

The proclamation suspends some laws to speed up emergency operations and provide necessary resources more quickly.
