Man convicted of murder in 2021 slaying of League City yacht leader who was followed to his home after dinner, authorities say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A man has been convicted of murder in the June 2021 slaying of a yacht leader in League City, according to Galveston County authorities.

After hours of deliberation, a Galveston County jury found Devan Kristopher Jordan Guilty in the shooting death of Jeffrey Johnson.

The conviction came after a months-long crime spree in 2021 that, like the Johnson case, included multiple armed robberies by a gang that followed victims from expensive restaurants to their homes, authorities said.

Authorities said Johnson and his wife had a private dinner at the Capital Grille in the Galleria area. The couple then got into Johnson’s Jaguar and drove home to a gated community in League City. It was stated that the couple was followed by the suspects in a white Mercedes GLE.

After parking in the garage, Johnson’s wife entered the home, and that’s when the suspects attacked and shot Johnson.

Although the suspects fled the area, a neighbor’s security camera captured the vehicle and Jordan’s DNA was recovered from a cup left on the street outside the community. Law enforcement also managed to trace Jordan’s phone from the restaurant in Houston to Johnson’s home.

In a joint investigation that included the Los Angeles Police Department, authorities learned that Johnson’s killing was part of a string of aggravated robberies, home invasions and other crimes that occurred in the Houston area.

Jordan’s conviction carries an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to authorities.
