K-9 Titan killed in action while on mission

FAIRBURN, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) – A K-9 officer was killed, the suspect was also killed, and a deputy was injured in a shootout near Atlanta.

The shooting followed a car chase that took place across multiple counties in metro Atlanta on Wednesday night. According to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the suspect as 23-year-old Jason Andre Wilson of Atlanta.

During the confrontation, authorities said Wilson shot a K-9 and a deputy. The K-9 was killed and the deputy was injured.

Authorities said a chase broke out around 11 p.m. when a deputy tried to stop a vehicle on the highway and the driver failed to pull over.

According to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, Wilson reached speeds of 180 mph.

A deputy stopped Wilson’s car using a PIT maneuver and released the K-9 Titan to help apprehend Wilson.

Wilson used his AK pistol to open fire on Coweta County deputies, Fairburn police officers and K-9 Titan.

The police dog was shot multiple times and died at the scene, authorities said.

One deputy was also hit multiple times and suffered multiple graze wounds.

Law enforcement officers fired back at Wilson, killing him.

The shot MP was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

K-9 Titan served with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office for more than five years.

The shooting is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
