Pennsylvania State Police investigators said Thursday they have identified the remains of an unidentified woman found dead near Fort Indiantown Gap 51 years ago.

Police will hold a press conference about 1973 Jane Doe on November 21 at 12:30 p.m. The press conference will be held at the Lebanon County Emergency Services Department.

On October 10, 1973, state police investigated the death and identity of a young woman found by two Lebanon County Game Wardens in a wooded area off Moonshine Road, near Ridge and Tomstown Roads in Union Township.

“His remains were found under a plastic tarp and brush and were decomposed,” state police announced Thursday. he said. “The female juvenile was described as a white female, approximately 5’3” to 5’6” tall, of slim to average build, with long brown and/or blonde hair.”

The statement did not provide any information about the woman’s cause of death.

Allegedly, the men were drawn to the area by the strong odor of the completely naked, badly decomposed corpse, which had no jewelry or other identifying marks. Lebanon Daily News reports at the time he was found.

At the time, authorities said he was in the woods for an estimated one to three weeks.

Over the years, researchers have attempted to identify this woman through various investigative efforts. As a result of these efforts, the victim was identified, officials said.

Police Exhumed Jane Doe’s remains in 2016 From Mount Lebanon Cemetery on Maple Street in Lebanon, in a far corner of the cemetery overlooking Stoever’s Dam Park. Authorities have released photos of the 3D craniofacial reconstruction and the bust of the young woman in recent years.

Police said Thursday they would release the identity of the victim at a press conference on Nov. 21.
