DeKalb police capture suspect in double murder, arson case in Mississippi

Firefighters found the bodies of 28-year-old Brittany Hall and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Derris Deshaun Woods, following a house fire at 2944 Cohassett Lane in September.

The couple was shot and the house was set on fire.

About a week later, DeKalb County police announced the arrest of 40-year-old Marques Holloway of Meridian, Mississippi, in connection with the case.

Months after her grandson’s murder, the arrest brought little relief to Shirley Hall.

“I had Brittany since she was a baby. I raised her until she was 28. It’s very difficult,” Hall told FOX 5’s Deidra Dukes. “I heard they suspected someone else was with him.”

Holloway is behind bars, charged with murder, but the victims’ families are terrified to know another suspect may still be at large.

“It’s terrible. It’s a terrible feeling to live like this every day and not know. But we just need some help,” Woods’ mother, Deidere Waters, said.

Woods’ mother now fears for her safety because she doesn’t know why her son and his girlfriend were targeted.

“I don’t even like being home alone anymore, you know? So we have to live with it every day. And they don’t know what’s happening to these kids and why this is happening to us,” Waters said. in question.

Police have not released a possible motive for the incident. The victims’ families are eagerly awaiting answers.

“Anything that could help us find out what happened to our children and why. For someone to do such a terrible thing, you know, it’s inhumane. It’s incredible. You know, it was a nightmare. It was a nightmare for both of us,” Waters lamented.

Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact the DeKalb County Police Department.
