PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka (AP) — Evin Lewis’ unbeaten 102 powered the West Indies to a consolation victory over series winners Sri Lanka in the third and final one-day international cricket match on Saturday.

Lewis, playing his first ODI since 2021, struck six in a row to bring up the winning streak and his fifth ODI century off 61 balls. The opener played the game even after rolling his left ankle in the 51st over.

The West Indies reached 156-3 to Sri Lanka’s 196-2 after a five-hour rain delay reduced the match to 23 overs per side at the Pallekele International Stadium.

Pathum Nissanka was dropped before scoring and Avishka Fernando was also dropped on 17, opening with an 81-run stand in 17 overs for Sri Lanka followed by a rain delay.

When play restarted, Kusal Mendis took the first four shots to the boundary.

Nissanka reached his 15th ODI half-century off 58 balls and was bowled out by 56 balls.

Mendis went on to make a half-century off 19 balls, falling twice and not out after nine boundaries and six mid-wicket, before finishing 56 not out.

West Indies lost their first wicket on 36 but Lewis and skipper Shai Hope combined for 72 runs.

When Hope was caught on 22, Lewis was joined by Sherfane Rutherford and they saw off the West Indies by eight wickets with one wicket to spare.

Rutherford took just 26 deliveries for his fourth ODI half-century; an unbeaten 50 deliveries, including three sixes and four boundaries. He also scored 74 and 80 in the series but Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka was named player of the series, taking 145 runs and two wickets.
