Euclid woman tries to turn lights back on in apartment building parking lot

EUCLID, Ohio (WOIO) – A pitch-black apartment parking lot is creating safety and security issues for people living in the complex and their cars.

“You can’t see your cars have been broken into, so people are going out in the morning, people are going to work to take their kids to school, you realize someone’s car has been broken into,” Allison Black said.

Black lives in an apartment in Euclid Apartments and says most of the parking lot has been unlit for the past six months, turning into a dark void when the sun goes down.

“Cut off your phone flashlight and run,” Black said when asked about navigating the parking lot at night.

He adds that lack of light leads to more crime, with piles of broken glass emerging, with break-ins a common occurrence, occurring more frequently on weekends.

“We need these lights to protect our vehicles and homes,” Black said. “We reported this to both Illufacing Company and Cleveland Public Power, neither responded.”

He said he and others raised the issue with management, who said they were “aware and working on it.”

So 19 News went to speak with staff at the complex’s leasing office and was told staff would look into the matter today and “make sure we get this taken care of promptly.”

19 News will be monitoring to make sure the lights are on.
