DURHAM, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced that an Oroville man was killed in a rollover crash that occurred Monday, Nov. 11, north of Nelson Road, east of Midway.

According to authorities, at an unknown time on Monday, Eric Scott Kmiecik, 54, of Oroville, was driving south on Midway when he allowed the right side of his vehicle to leave the roadway. He tried to get back on the road, but this caused his vehicle to lose traction, authorities said.

CHP said Kmiecik lost control in both lanes of Midway before overturning. Kmiecik, the only person in the vehicle, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.

Kmiecik was first reported missing on Nov. 12 after she was last seen the night before at the Empire Club in Durham, according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO). Deputy Hill is handling the coroner’s investigation and has notified next of kin.
