Musician Teases Version of ‘Very Rough’

Gracie Abrams revealed that there was an alternative, “very crude” version song “This Is So True” In conversation with my friend and co-writer Audrey Hobert for Spotify’s “You’re Invited, Sorry: An Evening Together” Gracie Abrams” activity.

In a short clip from the event, the two discuss the song’s origins, with Hobert admitting: “We were drunk when we wrote the lyrics.” Abrams added: “Yes, there is a very crude version of this… that will never see the light of day!”

But apparently there was one group of people lucky enough to hear this extremely rare and disgusting version of “That’s So True”: Mumford & Sons. (Really.)

Abrams explained that he and Hobart were writing “This Is So True” on the roof of Electric Lady Studios and did not realize there was another roof above them. As Abrams put it, the pair were “a little tipsy in a wonderful, light and fresh way.” “We weren’t sloppy,” Hobart added. “They burst into tears, they laughed so hard, they sang the scariest things that could possibly be said to the song,” Abrams continued.

Then Abrams got a text from Lee Foster, who directed Electric Lady: “He says, ‘Mumford & Sons are doing an interview right above you.’ … It was bad!”
