Searchers found a missing 5-year-old autistic boy dead just miles from his Oregon home, deputies said.

Joshua James McCoy’s body was discovered The Coos County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12:

Deputies said his mother woke up from a nap and couldn’t find her at home, so she was reported missing to authorities at 6:27 p.m.

First responders arrived at the home within about 15 minutes and discovered the child had a cell phone, deputies said.

Deputies attempted to ping the phone but “no productive information was provided.”

Deputies said the property was then searched without any luck in finding Joshua.

Other agencies were contacted and the next day deputies searched surrounding areas for him, including draining a pond on the property.

Search teams continue to grow, including agencies in Northern California, deputies said.

Drones, police dogs and “air support” Deputies said Joshua also used to look for him, but no one could find him.

On November 12, federal agencies joined the search.

Joshua was found later that day about 2 miles from his home, deputies said.
