Federal prosecutors have charged Asif Rahman, a one-time U.S. government employee with the highest security clearance, with two counts of unlawful transmission of national defense information after secret government records about possible Israeli attack plans surfaced online. Rahman allegedly illegally leaked information from locations outside the United States, including Cambodia, on Oct. 17, according to court records. However, it is not yet clear whether Rahman is the source of the secret documents or whether he acted alone.

He was charged last week in the Eastern District of Virginia and will make his first appearance in Guam federal court for deportation proceedings on Thursday.

Federal investigators within the Pentagon, along with the FBI, were alerted last month after documents apparently from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency were posted on a Telegram channel around the time Israel was considering a retaliatory strike on Iran, sources told CBS News. They started an investigation. Sources said the documents published online appear to be genuine.

The Ministry of Justice declined to comment.
