50 year old man bengaluru He died Tuesday after becoming trapped between an elevator door and an elevator shaft wall in a commercial building. The man was identified as Lakshaman Pramanik, a West Bengal native who has been working in Bengaluru for over two decades.

According to the news in The Times of India, at around 12.30 on Tuesday, Pramanik tried to enter the elevator of the commercial building in Richmond Town. As we were about to enter, the doors began to close and the sensors malfunctioned. However, he got stuck in the door and started screaming for help. Within seconds, the elevator started moving upwards while Pramanik was between the doors and got stuck on the first floor.

A couple who was already inside the elevator saw Pramanik screaming for help and they became helpless while inside the elevator. The fire team arrived at the scene an hour later and gave oxygen to the people trapped in the elevator. Since Pramanik got stuck between the elevator doors, they cut the elevator doors with gas welding. The person was immediately taken to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead because he had severe injuries all over his body.

The deceased worked at a jewelry store in the same commercial building and was survived by his wife and two children. The family lodged a complaint with the police and the Ashok Nagar police registered a case under section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

In a similar elevator accident, the owner of Hyderabad’s popular Sarvi restaurant was fined after the cook of the same restaurant was seriously injured when the elevator crashed during operations. The elevator reportedly crashed from the fourth floor to the first floor of the restaurant.
