MP filmed having heated argument with man on ground

A video has emerged showing MP Mike Amesbury shouting and swearing at a man lying on the pavement during chaos in Cheshire.

The Labor member for Runcorn and Helsby allegedly pointed at the man and said: “You’re not going to threaten the MP again, are you?” It seems he said. in Frodsham town center early on Saturday.

It is not clear what happened minutes before in the footage, which was apparently taken by a spectator.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said officers were called to reports of an assault and were examining the circumstances.

A Labor representative said: “We are aware of an incident that occurred last night. We understand that Mike Amesbury MP contacted Cheshire Police this morning to personally report what happened and will co-operate with investigations.”

The 55-year-old backbencher said on his Facebook page: “I was involved in an incident last night when I felt threatened following an evening out with friends.

“This morning I personally contacted Cheshire Police to report what had happened.

“I will not be making any further public comment but will of course co-operate with any investigation if requested by Cheshire Police.”

Cheshire Police said: “Police were called to reports of an assault in Frodsham at 02.48am (BST) on Saturday 26 October.

“A caller reported being attacked by a man on Main Street. Investigations are ongoing.”

In footage shared widely on X, some people can be seen trying to calm Mr Amesbury down, but some can be heard expressing anger and swearing.

Early on Friday, Mr. Amesbury Published on X about attending a meeting with local residents on community safety and policing issues.

The politician, who has been a Labor MP for Cheshire since 2017, also served as a shadow minister in local government when the party was in opposition.

The court heard the offender peered through the office window, asked guards about security levels and followed Mr Amesbury and confronted him on several occasions.
