Warren bar murder trial continues | News, Sports, Jobs

WARREN — Opening arguments are expected to begin this morning in the aggravated murder trial of Zaa Von Hameed, the 27-year-old Warren man accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Nathaniel Bradley at the 24 Park Place Tavern on May 13.

Hameed faces a charge of aggravated murder with a firearm specification.

During a preliminary hearing, a third-degree felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm on a liquor-licensed premises was dismissed.

According to the Trumbull County District Attorney’s Office, assistant prosecutors Michael Burnett and Kevin Trapp will prosecute the case on behalf of the state. The final witness is expected to testify this afternoon, Burnett said. Hameed is represented by defense attorney Aaron M. Meikle.

Jury selection began Tuesday afternoon and wrapped up later in the day. Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan is presiding over the hearing.

Logan previously upheld Hameed’s $1 million bail, citing his arrest by the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force in Columbus after he reportedly fled Warren following the incident. Hameed remains in custody at the Trumbull County Jail.

Hameed pleaded not guilty to the charges, and prosecutors allege he shot Bradley following a physical altercation at a Parkman Road NW bar.

Following the incident, the owner of Park Place 24 Tavern reached an agreement with city officials to permanently close the establishment due to its history of violence. Liquor license of the bar according to the terms of the agreement “security” and can only be reactivated if sold to a qualified buyer.
