Pine Hill, NJ crews battle massive fire at Mansion Apartments on West Branch Boulevard in Camden County

PINE HILL, NJ (WPVI) — A huge fire destroyed an apartment building Pine HillNew Jersey.

The call came in around 6 p.m. Tuesday for flames emerging from the second-floor balcony of the Mansion Apartments in the 200 block of West Branch Boulevard. Camden County.

The helicopter was overhead just after 6:30pm when the flames got out of control.

According to Pine Hill Police Chief Christopher Winters, approximately 16 units were destroyed and approximately 30 people were displaced as a result of the fire.

Five police officers and one firefighter who were affected by smoke were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“Officers who were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation were going door to door making sure people were outside. There were very heavy smoke conditions,” Winters said.

Vidal Aviles says it was his neighbor’s screams that alerted him to the danger.

“The lady downstairs was actually saying, ‘Help me, help me.’ That’s when they knew something was up,” he recalled.

“I was told by some people here that there were people jumping off the building,” Keisha Bishop added.

No residents were injured, police said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
