Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, accompanied Emily, a 21-year-old cerebral palsy patient, with a heartwarming gesture.

Emily has appeared in BBC Children in Need and The One Show’s fundraiser The Challenge Squad and has taken part in The Long Walk. On the final stretch of the trail, Sophie, dressed in skinny jeans, a scoop-neck sweater and a jacket, joined the young woman to encourage her on the remaining walk.

The palace shared a sweet video showing a brave young man facing challenges and a sweet exchange with Duchess Sophie.

“BBC Children in Need helped provide support for Emily, who has cerebral palsy,” the video said. “He was eager to give back and took on an epic challenge; He walked farther than he had ever walked before on The Long Walk in Windsor. Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh surprised Emily by joining her in the penultimate process.”

Royal fans couldn’t hold back the Duchess’ kind gesture as they flooded the comments section with praise.

“I love Sophie, what a lovely, down-to-earth woman, what a wonderful ending to Emily’s struggle. What a wonderful young lady, well done!!” wrote one fan.

Another wrote: “Isn’t Sophie just the best? And we will finish off that gorgeous young lady, you should be so proud of yourself, Emily.”

In the video, Sophie is seen chatting with Emily, who describes the difficulties she had to face “integrating into a society that did not accept people like her”.

Listening carefully to Emily, Sophie applauded the teenager, who praised her for her “great effort” and that she should be “so proud”.

The trip comes after Sophie joined the royal family at the weekend for the Remembrance Sunday festival and parade honoring fallen soldiers.
