Piper City nursing home closes after 52 years of operation

PIPER CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — A Piper City nursing home that has been a staple of the community for more than 50 years is closing.

WCIA’s partners at the Ford County Chronicle report the closure of Piper City Rehabilitation and Living Center, a 60-bed facility and Piper City’s largest employer. An exact date has not yet been confirmed — Village President Jeff Orr told the Chronicle that a staff member at the facility notified him on Jan. 1, but thought there would be a “closure period” first.

The nursing home was operated by Peoria-based Petersen Health Care for 13 years but was sold at a bankruptcy auction in August. As of October 31, Cascade Capitol Group now owns the retirement home and its current operator is Arcadia.

The Chronicle has reached out to Cascade, Arcadia and the nursing home for comment. The first two did not return their calls and emails, and a nursing home staff member said only “we have no comment at this time” before hanging up.

Orr told the Chronicle that he notified the village board last Wednesday of the nursing home’s closure after rumors began to spread. After speaking with a staff member, Orr said he believed employees were offered the chance to move to another Arcadia nursing home in Watseka.

“He said the Arcadia company treated its employees well,” Orr said. “He said there are people who are given jobs at the Watseka facility and if there is no place for them or if those people don’t want to go to Watseka, they will get help finding other employment. employment. “And they work with the residents’ families to get everyone settled.”

It remains unclear what will happen to the nursing home’s building after its closure.
