City of Evansville hosts public meeting to hear residents’ housing concerns

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – The City of Evansville will host a Fair Housing public meeting on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the meeting will be held at 18:00 at the CK Newsome Center.

Evansville residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and share their experiences with housing conditions in Evansville with officials.

Officials said meeting attendees could discuss potential strategies that could make housing more affordable in Evansville.

In September, the City of Evansville issued a notice. Fair Housing Survey Hearing information directly from residents. This survey was to allow officials to obtain honest feedback from residents about their experiences with housing discrimination issues.

Officials say the survey will be open until November 23, 2024.

Community members who cannot attend the public meeting are encouraged to respond to the survey.

The survey, along with the Fair Housing meeting, is an ongoing effort to ensure residents’ concerns are heard.

“The effort to make housing more accessible is one of the many ways city officials are making Evansville a city that works for all residents,” said Department of Metropolitan Development Executive Director Kolbi Jackson. “It is important for us to make sure we are addressing housing concerns coming directly from citizens.”

All Evansville residents are invited to the meeting.
