Alabama loses edge rusher Que Robinson to season-ending injury

Alabama’s defense took a major hit heading into the final games of the regular season, with edge rusher Que Robinson out for the remainder of the season with a left arm injury.

Robinson was injured in the second half of then-No. 9 Alabama’s 42-13 win. 14 LSU. Coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed the fifth-year senior’s injury was season-ending but did not elaborate on its nature.

“He is a special, special person in every way,” DeBoer said. “You hate to see what a man who has given so much to himself has to go through.

“The one thing I think about Que is that he’s not only on the field, but also before training, mentoring and doing things for other players. He cares a lot about the team. He cares a lot about this place. It’s just something that stands out above what you see on game days.”

The win against LSU pushed the Crimson Tide further into the playoffs and into Southeastern Conference contention. Alabama closes out the season with games against Mercer, Oklahoma and Auburn.

Robinson has 23 tackles this season and is tied for the team lead with four sacks. He also has five quarterback hurries with one forced fumble and one recovered.

Robinson, who made significant contributions on special teams throughout his career, played an increasingly larger role on defense each season. He is one of four current Tide players who were members of the 2020 national championship team despite not seeing action.

Qua Russaw and Yhonzae Pierre may see more snaps, while linebacker Jihaad Campbell has also played some at the position.

“These guys are excited for the tackle, next-man-up mentality,” Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said. “These are the defining moments as the season progresses; Do players take action when needed? And ultimately that will determine our success in the final part of the season.”
