Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen (NCP) said that Israel’s air strikes against Iran were justified under international law because they targeted military facilities.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Elina Valtonen (NCP) said in a statement on Saturday that it believes Israel is justified in carrying out attacks against Iran because they were reportedly aimed at military targets.

Israel’s retaliatory attack on military sites in Iran early Saturday was a response to Iranian attacks earlier this month.

According to Valtonen, Finland has been calling for an end to military tensions in the region for months.

Valtonen told Yle on Saturday: “Personally, I do not believe that killing the leaders of terrorist organizations one by one will solve this situation. We call on all parties to return to diplomatic means.”

According to Valtonen, Finland’s position is to support the international court system, which provides independent investigators on the ground to evaluate attacks, their impact on civilians, and possible war crimes.

“When the investigation is concluded and especially when the International Court of Justice (ICJ) or the International Criminal Court (ICC) makes its decision, Finland will naturally support it,” he added.
