The eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed near Warner Road after troopers attempted to detain a man crossing the westbound lanes Monday evening.

The Department of Public Safety said police officers were called to the area after a report of a pedestrian in the westbound lane just before 8:30 p.m.

Troopers then attempted to detain the man who jumped from the median into the eastbound lane, according to officials.

Troopers said the man was struck by a vehicle from the east side.

Authorities said that “there was a fight between a police officer and the suspect while the soldier was detaining the suspect.”

Meanwhile, a separate collision occurred between two cars in which one passenger died.

DPS officials said the drivers of both vehicles were injured.

I-10 eastbound lanes are closed, it is unknown when the area will reopen.

The investigation is still ongoing.
