Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard entered concussion protocol and was ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Raptors. Announced Monday.

NBA’s Chris Haynes had more information on Lillard:

Sources: Damian Lillard took a head-on hit near the end of the third quarter against the Celtics on Sunday. I had a headache and dizziness today. Tests confirmed a concussion. There’s a chance he’ll be cleared for Wednesday’s game against the Pistons.

Despite the Bucks’ early season struggles, Lillard had a great performance, recording 26 points, 6.6 assists and 4.6 rebounds in Milwaukee’s 2-8 start.

While the Bucks would prefer to have Lillard on the floor, his absence will come at a forgiving time as they face the Raptors, Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets this week; Even without Lillard, it’s a pretty manageable situation.

The concussion was Lillard’s first injury of the season, but he suffered some injuries late last season.

Lillard in the 2024 postseason ignored Milwaukee’s Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers in the first round due to a strained right Achilles tendon. After sitting out games 4 and 5, he returned in game 6 and scored a team-high 28 points, but the Bucks were eliminated from the play-offs after losing the series 4-2.

Lillard said he has been suffering from right Achilles discomfort since Milwaukee’s regular-season finale. He sat out the first few days of postseason practice to make it in time for the Bucks’ first-round series against the Pacers.

In his first year in Milwaukee, Lillard played in 73 games and had his healthiest season in a long time, averaging 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 7.0 assists. He played in 70 or more games for the first time since the 2018-19 season with the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Bucks certainly hope Lillard can stay healthy this year as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season last season. But for now, he will have to miss some playing time and AJ Green will likely serve as Milwaukee’s starting point guard.
