Stock market holiday in 2024

According to the list of stock market holidays 2024, the Indian stock market was closed on November 1, 2024 for Diwali. The one-hour special Muhurat trading session was held on November 1 from 18:00 to 19:10 to celebrate the beginning of the new Hindu calendar.

November 15 (Friday): Markets will be closed on this special day in commemoration of Guru Nanak Jayanti, a religious holiday.

November 20 (Wednesday): Markets will also be closed due to the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, in which all 288 seats in the state legislature will go to polls. The votes are expected to be counted on November 23.

The current term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly ends on November 26. The state will witness a two-way contest between two coalitions – Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprising Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar) and Congress. and the Mahayuti Alliance, which brings together the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar).

Traditionally, changes in market sentiment are noticed during major political events, such as state elections. Experts are of the view that the Maharashtra result transcends significance as the state contributes over 13-14% to India’s GDP and acts as a bulwark for the major political front, according to Currency Control.

In December, markets are closed for one day on December 25 for Christmas celebrations.
