Sabers’ leading scorer Tage Thompson is out with a lower-body injury

BUFFALO, NY — Buffalo Sabers leading scorer Tage Thompson left Monday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens with a lower-body injury in the second period and did not return.

Thompson, who scored his 11th goal of the season in the first period of the match in which the Sabers lost 7-5, played a single shift in the second period without leaving the game. There was no update on Sabers coach Lindy Ruff’s status after the game.

“He’s a very important piece on our team and we need him there,” Sabers captain Rasmus Dahlin said.

Thompson scored 18 points with 11 goals and 7 assists this season.

Sabers defenseman Mattias Samuelsson also left the game in the second period with a lower-body injury. No statement was made about his condition after the match.
