The 16-year-old boy died; Police say 1 person arrested following accidental shooting in Baker

BAKER, La. (WAFB) – A 16-year-old boy is dead and one person has been arrested following an accidental shooting in Baker, according to police.

The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, in the 1000 block of Florida Boulevard in Baker.

According to police, initial information received indicates that the suspects were manipulating an assault rifle in the bedroom of a home when the firearm was accidentally discharged.

Police said an arrest warrant has been issued for 18-year-old Tra’meir Smith on charges of negligent homicide. They added that Smith was arrested as a fugitive through the New Orleans Police Department.

Baker Police Chief Carl Dunn said the investigation is still in its early stages.

The name of the 16-year-old victim was not released.
