The Osun State Government has issued a stern warning against unauthorized groups claiming jurisdiction over commercial drivers in the state.

The state government, through the Ministry of Transport, also warned that such actions could lead to legal consequences.

In a statement issued on Friday and made available to DAILY POST, the Commissioner for Transport, Sesan Oyedele, maintained that the only government-recognized agency responsible for commercial drivers in Osun State is the Osun State Transportation Management System (OSTMS). In his statement, Oyedele called on the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to refrain from activities that could destabilize the state’s transport sector.

Oyedele emphasized that the state is experiencing a period of stability and order in the commercial transportation sector under the supervision of OSTMS.

He advised residents and passengers to ensure their safety by only riding vehicles bearing the OSTMS logo in motor parks.

“The government values ​​the safety of our people and OSTMS is the only agency we can safely support.”

The ministry also stated that the notification serves as a reminder to all transportation stakeholders to comply with government-approved regulations and avoid any actions that may disturb public peace.

The statement includes the following statements: “How can an institution that is not recognized by the government boast of overthrowing a sitting government? Are they saying they want to create chaos in the state?

“Osun State was at peace and progressing under the rule of Senator Ademola Adeleke. Commercial drivers in the state are under the control of the Osun State Transport Management System.

“I use this tool to warn any group that poses as the body responsible for commercial drivers in the state to desist from now on, as the law will not take this lightly.”

The statement comes after the NURTW leadership in the state, led by Kazeem Oyewale, promised to vote out Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2026.

This decision was taken by the Osun NURTW leadership at a meeting held in Ilesa on Wednesday.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the Osun NURTW Central Working Committee (CWC), Acting Chairman Oyewale said their decision was based on the fact that upon assuming office, Governor Adeleke suspended members from the activity and replaced it with the Park Management system. .

Oyewale, who condemned the mistreatment of the union members by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration since its inception, said no stone would be left unturned to ensure the return of the APC to government in 2026.

While acknowledging that the union is non-partisan, the NURTW Acting President stated that it has become imperative for members to align with the political party that recognizes their existence and advocates for the welfare and general welfare of its members.

The union also had a split with former state president Folorunso Salami, who joined the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with some members.
