OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – A former firefighter is out of court after suing Marion County for not covering the cost of his cancer treatment.

Phillip Shinn retired in 2016 after more than 30 years of service.

He was diagnosed with cancer under a state law that provides post-retirement benefits to firefighters.

He was denied coverage because he was on Medicaid.

Court records show that attorneys for both sides reached an agreement and asked for the case to be dismissed.

A hearing was scheduled for Monday.
